Cool! In every sense of the word. There are few things cooler than being able to dive under ice. A lake overfrozen with glas clear ice – this happens only once in a couple of years around here. This year’s February provided a perfct day: sunshine, now wind/waves, clear ice cover, a spot to enter from land side and the right buddys to hop in with.
After quite some effort to open an entry point we prepared carefully and took all safety margins into account. In teams of two and three we started our dives, secured with safety lines starting directly at the entry hole.
The visibility was great – in the body of water as well as through the ice. We could perfectly make out the land party standing on the pier. We did not seek any great depths but stayed in the shallow part, frolicking around and having fun crawling and walking unter the ice, following the bubbles flowing under the ice and enjoying this unique moments together.
